EXPERIENCE SOUND BATHING

What is Sound Bathing and What to Expect

Sound bathing involves various instruments, such as Tibetan and crystal singing bowls, gongs, chimes, drums, rattles, and crystal triangles.

These sounds produce tones, frequencies, and vibrations that wash over the body and mind to either relax or stimulate the nervous system, depending on the individual’s needs.

Unlike melodies you might hear at an orchestra, the tones in a sound bath can range from soothing to potentially unsettling. The way these sounds resonate in the body may indicate whether energy is flowing freely or being blocked within. Keep in mind that each sound bath is a unique experience, depending on which instruments are played, the order in which they are played and the state of your nervous system. As you move in and out of different states of mindfulness, pay attention to any visions that arise, as it’s often said, “Visions are how your soul speaks to the mind.”

Wash Away Stress & Realign Your Energy

What is Sound Bathing and What to Expect
Sound bathing involves using various instruments, such as Tibetan and crystal singing bowls, gongs, chimes, drums, rattles, and crystal triangles, to create waves of sound that wash over the body and mind. These sounds produce tones, frequencies, and vibrations that can either relax or stimulate the nervous system, depending on the individual’s needs. Unlike melodies you might hear at an orchestra, the tones in a sound bath can range from soothing to potentially unsettling. The way these sounds resonate in the body may indicate whether energy is flowing freely or being blocked within. Keep in mind that each sound bath is a unique experience, depending on the instruments that are played, the order in which they are played and the state of your nervous system. As you move in and out of different states of mindfulness, it’s encouraged to pay attention to any visions that arise during the session, as it’s often said, “Visions are how your soul speaks to the mind.”
History and Science of Sound Healing
Sound has been used for healing, meditation, and spiritual connection by sages, healers, priests, and medicine people across cultures for thousands of years. Ancient civilizations, and even contemporary practices, recognize sound as a creative force of the universe. As expressed in Psalms 33:9, “For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.” Sound has been integral in rituals, ceremonies, meditations, and healing practices throughout history.
Everything is made of energy, vibration, and frequency, creating an endless sea of sound. While some sound waves are audible, many are not; nevertheless, all sound waves produce effects on us and everything around us. These waves are continuous and omnipresent. The vibrations from sound healing instruments penetrate deep into the tissue, enhancing blood circulation, metabolism, and muscle tension regulation, while either stimulating or calming the nervous system. They also support the body’s regenerative and repair mechanisms. Sound healing is both activating and relaxing, refreshing the mind and body. The oscillating effect of sound vibrations alternates between compression and relaxation at the cellular level, almost like a massage for the cells.
What to Bring to a Sound Bath
  • For a group sound bath, bring a yoga mat, camping mat, or soft blanket to lie or sit on during the session. Alternatively, you can sit comfortably in a chair or zero-gravity lounger if lying down isn’t an option. Note: These items are not needed for individual sessions.
  • A pillow for your head, and perhaps an extra blanket or two to stay warm or feel secure, if needed.
  • Layers! Your body temperature may drop during deep relaxation, so wear layers like a t-shirt, sweatshirt, sweatpants, socks, etc. Dress for comfort to stay cozy.
  • Water! Be well-hydrated before the session. Since the body is 70% water and sound vibrations are enhanced by water, staying hydrated will help maximize your sound bath experience.
  • Lastly, come with an open mind and a curious heart to fully embrace and enjoy your sound bathing experience.
Benefits of Sound Bathing
  • Has shown to help reduce symptoms caused by many health conditions, such as anxiety, PTSD, dementia, cancer, behavioral and psychiatric disorders and much more.
  • Lowers stress, blood pressure, even cholesterol levels
  • Improves sleep quality
  • Deep relaxation
  • Relieve tension and pain
  • An energetic deep tissue massage from the sound vibrations traveling through the body.
  • Creates an overall feeling of well-being; balanced and refreshed.
  • Helps balance the Autonomic Nervous System; calming the Sympathetic Nervous System, yet stimulating the Parasympathetic Nervous System.
Contraindications
  • Pregnant women, especially during the first 12 weeks, should be careful when participating in any form of sound healing, particularly avoiding any sound instruments being placed directly on the body.
  • Anyone with serious mental health issues should always consult their doctor before receiving sound therapy.
  • Those with sound-induced epilepsy should always consult their doctor to ensure it is safe and are in no harm from seizures caused by healing sound vibrations.
  • Those with an implanted heart pacemaker, stent, or shunt, should always keep sound instruments at a minimum distance of 20 cm, and never have them directly on or near metal implants.
  • In case of nerve damage one should avoid sound healing on that part of the body.
  • Do not place any instruments near open wounds or scars that are not yet healed.
  • Those wearing hearing aids may want to consider turning them off due to sound interference
